Nestled in the heart of New York’s Upper East Side, Sandro’s is a culinary gem that brings the essence of Northern and Roman Italian cuisine to life with remarkable authenticity and flair. From the moment you step inside, the inviting ambiance strikes the perfect balance between elegant and relaxed—a stylish setting enhanced by thoughtfully curated details like vibrant colored water glasses and warm, attentive service that makes every guest feel valued.
Sandro’s menu reads like a love letter to Italy’s rich gastronomic heritage. Pasta lovers will find themselves enchanted by the homemade options such as the tender Spaghettini al Limone, bursting with bright citrus notes, or the hearty Bucatini Amatriciana that artfully pairs tomato sauce, onion, and guanciale to create a symphony of smoky and savory flavors. The Pennette Francescana combines luscious tomatoes, cream, vodka, and prosciutto into a decadent dish that’s nothing short of sublime. For those craving more robust tastes, the Veal Bolognese and Grilled Veal Chop deliver deeply satisfying, meaty richness.
Fresh starters like the Prosciutto San Daniele with Burrata or Mozzarella showcase silky textures and nuanced creaminess against the backdrop of cured perfection. The delicate Carpaccio Malatesta, thinly sliced raw beef complemented by crisp julienned vegetables, offers a refined take on traditional flavors, while the Grilled Prawns bring smoky, charred notes that awaken the palate.
Desserts at Sandro’s are a thoughtfully crafted finale. Their classic Tiramisu embodies a perfect harmony of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cream, light yet indulgent. Equally tempting are the Italian Cookies and the signature Sandro’s Biscotti, buttery homemade treats that linger delightfully on the tongue. Pair these with a refreshing sip of Partanna Aranciata, an organic Sicilian blood orange soda, for a finish that’s both vibrant and satisfyingly sweet.
Guests repeatedly praise the top-notch service, highlighting the staff’s genuine warmth and expert suggestions that elevate the dining experience. Elsie L fondly recalls the “meaty and juicy” veal flank paired beautifully with a decadent apple cake topped with ice cream, a comforting dessert that perfectly rounded off a memorable meal. Royya Osouli’s note on the divine homemade pasta and impeccable service echoes many’s sentiments, while Genna Koral’s enthusiastic endorsement—calling Sandro’s “the most delicious and authentic Italian meal” she’s had since Italy itself—perfectly captures the restaurant’s magnetic appeal.
The atmosphere fosters both intimate dining and social gatherings, making Sandro’s equally suited for romantic dinners, friendly meetups, or celebratory evenings. The bar area exudes a warm, inviting vibe, ideal for savoring their curated selection of wines and classic cocktails. A thoughtful touch during your visit includes complimentary bruschetta, bread, and breadsticks, setting the tone for a meal steeped in generosity and genuine Italian hospitality.
Overall, Sandro’s delivers an exceptional journey through Italy’s gastronomic wealth with finesse, authenticity, and heartfelt service that will keep you coming back time and again. Whether you are craving the rich depth of a Florentine steak, the fresh creaminess of burrata, or that unforgettable first bite of a perfectly executed pasta, this is the Upper East Side’s destination for a truly elevated Italian experience.
We had a great lunch here! The veal flank was meaty and juicy. We also ordered the apple cake with ice cream for dessert, which made my day.
Incredible Italian food!! Homemade pasta was divine. Service was impeccable. I’d recommend dressing nicely (not a casual vibe)
Sandros was recommended to us by the owner of a small vineyard in Frascati outside Rome. Run, don’t walk. This was the most delicious and authentic Italian meal I’ve had since being back from Italy. Cannot wait to come back to try more dishes! We shared the Burrata appetizer, it was perfect. The roasted peppers were delicious and sweet. The balsamic they put on the table was the best I’ve ever had. Then we had the real Milanese and lemon pasta - both were the best versions of each I’ve ever had. Will be back as soon as possible!
We came here on a Sunday evening close to closing and they were very sweet and happy to seat us. Ambiance: The bar area is really nice. They have done a great job with table set up as well and I love the colored water glasses. Sandro’s is great for big groups, small groups and dates. Service: everyone was very friendly. Our waiter was very helpful on giving us suggestions on what to order based on our preferences. He also gave us advice on whether certain modifications would work with our meal choices. Food: They started us off with complimentary bread and bruschetta. The bruschetta was really yummy. A classic and simple take on bruschetta which was perfectly seasoned. The bread was also nice and soft. As our entree, I got their vodka sauce with house made fettuccini. The pasta felt perfectly cooked and I really enjoyed the sauce with it. The spaghetti pomodoro was also on point. It had the right amount of pasta or sauce ratio and the sauce was really flavorful. Price: we got 4 entrees and 2 glasses of wine and our meal came out to about $50/person. Insta: @TheShahLALand
Great service and authentic Italian food. When we were seated, they immediately brought out bruschetta, bread, and breadsticks, a thoughtful touch. The salad, cacio e pepe, and wine were all excellent. To top it off, we were brought a warm cookie before heading out. 10/10 recommend.
At a total loss for words. The food? Unreal. Some of the best pasta I’ve had since Rome — no exaggeration. Then came the Bistecca Fiorentina… and wow. Like butter, baby. My only gripe to my wife? The usual UES scene — hedge fund bros and facelift warriors everywhere. But honestly, who cares? When the food hits like that, the crowd just fades into the background.
We happened upon Sandro’s after walking around the city. We found the food to be fantastic and the service just beyond! Our lunches were delicious, with perfectly dressed salads and wonderful pasta dishes. The waiter and hostess both took care of our every request and created such a lovely and relaxing atmosphere. I am visiting from out of state, but when I return, I will be sure to come back to Sandro’s!
